i don’t know what exactly sent me over the edge, but sometime during my junior year at berkeley i decided to get a motorcycle. i took the gruelling 20-hour weekend msf class, passed the subsequent dmv test, and i scheduled my berkeley classes for MWF so that i could work for diamond part time to get the money.
first, pictures. these are pictures of me on my first motorcycle, a heavily modified 1992 yamaha FZR600 (the jacket came with the bike):
these are pictures of my second/third bike, a 1993 honda CBR600F2 (the first pic is actually sid, one of my high school friends who got a bike after me):
the biggest reason to ride a motorcycle is that it’s rad. there really isn’t anything else you can do on a daily basis that is as fun/exciting/challenging/etc. there’s nothing quite like leaning aggressively into a fast turn to feel the g’s, tearing off of a traffic light to see the cars behind you as mere specks in the distance or gunning down an empty midnight freeway at 110+ mph.. but, uh, i never did those things..
which brings up the biggest reason not to ride: getting injured. i’m happy to say that i never had anything remotely serious happen to me, but there were enough close calls to tell me that i’ve had enough for now.
so that’s it. after college (about 1.5 years of riding) i sold my bike and haven’t rode since. i have lots of good stories to tell.. but i’ll save those for later :)
